American Powetrain's transmission swap crossmembers are made of super light, yet super rigid aluminum and feature a unique military-spec ballistic material for the mount.
While the well designed and extremely lightweight aluminum transmission crossmembers from American Powertrain are very cool, it's the mount that got our attention.
The ideal scenario for a transmission mount is something that can absorb vibration without still transferring all of the power to the rearend.
Solid mounts are too harsh and generally not recommended for transmissions, rubber allows for too much much drivetrain movement. Poly mounts work well, but what if you need a custom thickness that is far thinner than is available?
That's why American Powertrain developed these deceptively simple appearing trans mounts. What appears to be some sort of black plastic, is actually a military ballistics material that is very rigid, yet still absorbs large amount of NVH. The military uses this stuff for engine and trans mounts in vehicles for exactly that reason.
Since it is a solid block of material, American Powertrain can shave it down to exactly the height you need to gain maximum clearance on your custom install. That can be invaluable, and there really aren't any other good options.
We may even be touching base with them to help eliminate a clearance issue on our own Max Effort '67 Cougar project car.
