What would you rate as the best single thing you can do to upgrade a classic car? Which parts make the most difference?

We're working on a list of the best things you can do to transform the driving experience of a classic car. 

So far we've got;

New steering and quick ratio box

Bushings, preferably urethane or solid  

Subframe connectors

Disc brakes

Sport seats and belts

Wheels

Wider and better tires

Overdrive swap

Swaybar upgrade

Springs and shocks

Carb/Intake/Ignition/Exhaust


What else can you think of? Which parts make the most difference?

1. Of those not on your list. Charging system, which typically is a high output alternator. That was the first real upgrade I made on my 65 El Camino in the 70's and others later. Getting rid of the mechanical regulator and upgrading to a Delco 10SI. Then later to a 92amp 12SI. This upgrade is pretty much mandatory for upgrading later to high output ignitions, audio systems, halogen sealed beams and A/C. I prefer the 12SI non single wire because they have good low speed output. In other words, in the summer with the A/C on at night running wipers stereo and high beams the alternator will still keep up at idle. The really nice thing about the 10 and 12 SI is the aftermarket now makes multi-fit end frames. This enables you to mount them on other makes and models besides GM.
