Max Effort Update: Engine Fitment

We're getting back to work on our street-legal road race project car known as Max Effort.

Ever have a project car get back-burnered as life, responsibilities, and other projects manage to push their way to the forefront? It’s happened to us a few times, most recently with our ’67 Cougar XR7 road racer known as Max Effort.

That’s about to change though; we recently hauled the 438ci Dart based stroker Clevor built by Ford Performance Solutions (Street Cup, Oct ’11) up to Kertz Fabrication at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Ca to begin figuring out how far down and rearward we can move it for optimum weight placement while still clearing the CorteX Racing suspension K-member. The one thing we do know so far is that there will be some firewall cutting!

Actually, after a quick pan-to-throttle body measurement we do know one other thing; the 9.5-inch deck Clevor with an Edelbrock NASCAR intake and FAST XFI injection is going to require some hood mods as well! No sweat, we need to shed some pounds there anyways and have been pondering a tech story on how to build your own custom fiberglass or carbon fiber hood. Sound interesting?

So after a few months of dust gathering, we’re brushing Max off and getting back to work- and this time we’ll stay on it until we’re ready for shake down runs around Infineon!
