Project Nova Update:
We’re happy to officially announce that Outlaw Motorsports in Riverside, CA (951-352-5107) will be helping us through the final phase of construction on our 1968 Nova. Through the course of the last year, we’ve taken the refrigerator white jalopy from slow and unsafe, to fast and somewhat safer, but still ugly. The progression took us through a 400ci 523hp small-block build-up based on a DART SHP 400, to suspension, brake, and steering upgrades from CPP. We also addressed the rolling stock with NT01 rubber from Nitto, and wheels from Vintage Wheel Works. Driveline duties are now handled by a Moser 12-bolt with Wavetrac diff, and a Switch-Pitch equipped Turbo 400 from Phoenix Transmission Products.
With our Flowmaster exhaust fabrication handled by Automotive Excellence in Huntington Beach, CA, we moved the Nova over to Outlaw Motorsports, where Ron Aschtgen (on right) will transform the ugly duckling into a graceful swan. That will entail stripping the paint off and repairing all the hidden damage, then prepping and painting the X-body using quality DIY Eastwood chemicals, abrasives, and tools. Over the next few months, we’ll be bringing you stories on paint stripping, dent/rust repair, and general body and paint techniques. Beyond that, Outlaw will be addressing the interior, wiring, and safety aspects, so stay tuned!
