Brit Turner of southern rock band, Blackberry Smoke, is a Chevy muscle car fan!
Being the editor of a major magazine, my email in-box is stuffed every day with PR announcements from around the world. A lot of the time, they’re about junk none of you would ever care about—they’re just throwing stuff on the wall hoping it will stick.
Today, I got a note from Leo Lavoro, the senior publicity manager for Big Machine Media in New York City. They do PR work for major recording artists, including an emerging southern rock group out of Georgia called Blackberry Smoke.
As it so happens, I’ve been following this band for a while, and they totally rock. If you like Skynyrd, Blackfoot, or ZZ Top, and you grew up in the ‘70s, then Blackberry Smoke is your kind of music.
What I didn’t realize is that Smoke drummer, Brit Turner, is a total gearhead. Well, that totally pushed me over the top, so my thanks to Leo for cluing me in.
I guess Leo figured that if he wanted a pitch in PHR for the new Blackberry Smoke album, Little Piece Of Dixie, he would have to unleash some of Brit’s Detroit iron on us, so here it is.
Like a lot of you, Brit Turner enjoys wrenching on his junk, and he does a lot of that when he’s not on the road. Leo sent us pix of Brit’s 396 big-block ’68 Camaro SS, ’71 Chevelle Malibu, ’62 Corvette, and ’59 Chevy. That’s a lot of iron to feed, but it’s well worth it when it inspires you to play like Brit does. We wish all the best to Blackberry Smoke, which is currently on tour with Lynyrd Skynyrd.
