Some of you have noticed that I’ve got a soft spot for rock ‘n’ roll stars—guitar slingers especially. East Texas rocker, Wes Jeans, is one of those guys. You may remember that I recently mentioned Wes Jeans in my October editorial when he dropped by the crib to give me a guitar lesson or three, and help me work on the Laguna project car. Many musicians, athletes, and stars are into cars, and I occasionally get cornered by celebrities at trade shows when they regale me with stories of the outrageous checkbook cars they commission. And as you would expect, the “won’t you please feature my car because I’m a star” requests abound. As a consequence, I’ve become adept at stifling yawns. And while I’m always delighted to rub shoulders with the rich and famous, I really only call a handful of them friends. Wes is one of those dudes. I respect him because he’s a real hot rodder who builds his own junk with his own hands. Recently, Wes sent me some photos of the 406 small-block he’s building in his garage. It’s for his very non-checkbook homebuilt ’73 Corvette. I hold Wes out to you as an example of a hot rodding rocker who’s keeping it real!
