Budget Project Cars Off The Beaten Path

 I am looking for ideas for budget project cars, any input?

 The first gen Camaro's and Mustang fastback's prices have risen to a level that makes them untouchable to the budget builder unless they want it to be a 10-year project. The Chevelles and other popular models are the same way.
With the economy slowing, it's really hard to get rolling on a high-dollar car like these. That's why we need to look for cool alternatives.

I want to come up with a list of cars from the early '60s to the '90s that have a low buy-in price with cool factor and potential to hot rod out.

Any ideas?

3. I don't think you're looking hard enough. Prepare to be blown away...

Looks like a few still have engines, still an insane variety. Same search here seems to be returning a lot of Fords--not to be confused with Mustangs.

Nothing "B" about having enough personality to find your own car. Don't have to worry about tearing it up or getting all lonely when you can't find any friends with 15k in disposable income and a free garage to get in on your hobby. You could probably build an extra car or two for them to cruise with if you had the space...

4. Keep in mind, automakers save money by sharing platforms. Love a Fox Mustang? Go check out a T'bird of the same year..the curb weight isn't as different as you'd think. Or grab a Fairmont, Granada, Lincoln Mark 7 LSC...

Like early Mustangs? check out a Maverick, its the same front suspension.

Late 70 Malibus getting too common? check out Pontiac's Grand Am of that year.

Like Vegas? Check out the Pontiac Astra.

Seriously, you have to work at not finding a new porject car. Chassis's get shared, so parts can exhange sometimes. Just find something solid, with low miles. They usually don't get beat on like a V6 Camaro or a 4 cylinder Mustang.

5. Try 60's Falcons. I just picked a 64 Futura up for $900. They are out there. You just got to look. Parts are available and there are tons of affordable small block Ford parts.
