Metric and Standard Hardware

What's The Deal?

A friend of mine emailed me with this gripe, I thought I'd share.

He's got an LS1 Camaro that is almost entirely made up of Metic hardware and fittings. Like most, he has bought a couple aftermarket goodies to improve the look, feel and performance of his ride.

Switching from metric to standard sockets and wrenches has really slowed his work. Sure you can see the 8.8 or 10.9 writen on the head of bolts to identify they are metric, but what if you can't see it, or its a nut on a stud. New parts almost always come with standard hardware so you have to have spare hardware and tools for both.

Why can't aftermarket manufactures use the same type of hardware for the car they are meant to go on? It's probably a cost thing, but it sure would be nice!
