Who knew my steel ralleys were worth it...
It was exactly one year to the day after I brought my '68 Camaro home for the first time. My mom and I were staying in a decent hotel on vacation in Carmel, California. If you aren't familiar with this area, its a heavily wooded, very arts and crafts coastal town that is usually visited by the older crowd. It's close to Monterey and Pismo Beach. That night we received a call from the front desk asking if the owner of a '68 Camaro was staying in that room. My mom answered yes and they told her that the police were in the parking lot by the car and to come down.
We both ran down to the parking lot, that was gated mind you, to see my poor Camaro sitting on cinder blocks. There were no suspects and apparently the cameras weren't working that day. The hotel agreed to pay for the wheels and tires but we still had to worry about getting home! I had to buy some cheap chrome wheels since rallyes don't usually come next day on a Sunday.
At the time I didn't have any security devices on the car and I've learned my lesson. At least I recommend using some high-quality wheel locks that can't be removed by pounding a socket over them. Gorilla makes a lock that has an exterior collar that spins freely so you cant put a socket over it. It's cheap insurance against wheel thieves. Having an alarm is good too, but I know some people don't like cutting into their nice wiring for something like that.
