The shape of the Camaro has changed over the years.
Over the weekend my friends and I were talking about the new Camaro and one of them mentioned it looked larger than the year I have and I told them it was, but I didn't know how much.
A quick trip to the computer yielded all the answers I was looking for.
First Generation ('67-'69 V-8)
Curb Weight: 3,070
Length: 185 inches
Width: 73 inches
Second Generation ('70-'81 V-8)
Curb Weight: 3,328
Length: 197 inches
Width: 75 inches
Third Generation ('82-'92 V-8)
Curb Weight: 3,273
Length: 193 inches
Width: 74 inches
Fourth Generation ('93-'98)
Curb Weight: 3,306
Length: 194 inches
Width: 74 inches
Current (2010 SS)
Curb Weight: 3,750
Length: 190 inches
Width: 76 inches
Conclusion:
Over the decades Camaros have gained 700 pounds, 5 inches of length, and 3 inches of width. I imagine the extra weight is a safety thing, but where is it all? Aren't new cars supposed to have more plastic in them than anything? The fourth gen to current year jump in weight is the biggest, what gives?
