...so why not pay special attention to it?
Over the years I've learned how important having a well put-together garage is. That's why I think it's a great idea to spend a couple hours planning out the layout before you start to move stuff around. Most of the equipment in my garage is very heavy, and difficult to move, so why move it more than once.
One problem I've seen is having the tools too far from the bench and having the tools hard to get to. At my mom's garage, back when I worked out of it, I had the tools close to the garage door so I could easily work on projects in the driveway. I also had the bench run over the tool box. Currently the tool box I'm using is taller than a bench could be so I can't make it exactly like that but I can make it close at least.
I started my plan by measuring the garage and all of it's doors and windows. I drew a scale drawing fitting it on a piece of paper. I then measured all the significantly sized items in the garage and drew them to scale in photoshop and labeled them clearly. Now that I've got the garage and equipment in scale, I can see how the pieces can fit.
