New meaning to "drives like a girl."
Mary Pozzi has a lot of experience driving cars. She's an 11-time SCCA autocross national champion. She runs a '73 RS Camaro with a traditional leaf-spring rear, proving a leaf spring car can do just as well or better then a fancy coil spring/control arm setup.
At last weekend's Del Mar Goodguys show, Camaro tech editor Steven Rupp raced is "million-dollar" '68 Camaro named "Bad Penny" against Pozzi, and with the help of some extra-sticky, illegal for the competition tires, he managed to barely beat her time.
Pozzi however, in an easily 40-thousand dollar less to build '73, won the competition with a lap time of 30.2. For fun, she hopped into Rupp's Camaro and ran the fastest lap (unofficial because of the tires) at 29.2 seconds.
I got to ride with her before the end of the Del Mar show and was amazed at how fluid she made the car feel. So congrats to Mary for taking first in the the Goodguys Del Mar car show Street Challenge Street Machine class.
