Costa Mesa Goodguys

If you live in SoCal, you’ll want to come out to the Orange County Fair & Expo Center this weekend.

Each year, the Goodguys Rod & Custom Association holds a show in Costa Mesa, and what makes it unusual is that it’s extremely close to most of the big car magazines. In astronomical terms, it’s like a comet grazing the earth’s atmosphere. Most of the car magazines send at least one staffer out to cover the event, and look for cars to feature.

The promoters and vendors at Goodguys know this, and have devised an event that makes it even more interesting for fans and readers: they hold a yearly Editor’s Challenge at the autocross area. All magazines are invited to bring out their project cars and go head-to-head to find out who knows their stuff, and who’s just posing. The Editor’s Cup Challenge starts at high noon on Saturday, March 14, and spectating by fans and readers is encouraged. We’ll be there with two cars: Liz Miles in her ’68 Camaro, and myself with the ’76 “g/28”Camaro (provided we can get our TigerCage installed in time).

Speaking of g/28, Air Ride Technologies will be doing a live TigerCage installation on our ’76 in their vendor booth. So if you want to check out the “G” up close in person, this is a great opportunity. I’ll also be there to shoot the bull and peek at your project cars, so look us up at the Air Ride booth.
