I recently have spent a lot of time under the back of the Mustang and am really considering replacing the fuel. I noticed a wet spot on the underside of the tank that is slowly making it's way onto the ground.
I can repair the hole in the tank by welding it shut. They have special epoxy repair kits, but I don't trust that method, especially not for a race car. The repair processes starts with cleaning the tank really well, then welding the hole shut. There are extra precautions to take when welding a gas tank.
Replace.
I can get a stock replacement fuel tank from an assortment of aftermaket and OE suppliers. This is by far the easiest option.
Upgrade.
Since this is going to be a racecar, I could justify putting a fuel cell in it. They come in many forms, but I would try and get one that fit in the factory location so I can keep all my trunk space and not cut the floor.
