A new lightweight Tool-Steel lifter from Trend Performance is designed with the pro racer and hardcore street guy in mind.
Weight is the enemy of valvetrains, and Trend’s new .904-inch diameter Tool-Steel lifter for Chryslers is both durable and light, at less than 69 grams. These new pieces from Trend supersede hardened iron and chilled-iron lifters, and according to the manufacturer, durability testing was conducted during a full season of Nextel Cup racing with no failures. Trend also tested them extensively on cast iron and steel cams.
Already a leader in pushrods for Mopars, Trend has built the new lifter with a 5/32-inch radius in the pushrod seat to match Trend’s 5/16-inch one-piece pushrod. The radii on the annulus helps prevent scuffing of the lifter bores.
These lifters are available in coated (to increase wear properties), or uncoated finishes. Now here’s where things get a bit nerdy, so try and follow this: these tool-steel lifters feature a ground foot with an Rz specification (surface roughness) of 4 microns, and an Ra spec of .08 microns. The Rz refers to a 10-point average of the five highest peaks compared with the five lowest valleys—it defines the depth of a scratch. The Ra (roughness average) refers to the average distance between the peaks and valleys. Still not impressed?
These are a direct replacement for Schubeck ceramic-foot lifter, and are hardened to 64 Rockwell; that provides the strength and toughness necessary to operate at both higher rpm, and higher spring pressures. Translation: you’re going to be a-ok with the most aggressive of today’s new lobe profiles. The part numbers you want are CH- 904-LM-S (non-oiling lifter with solid body), and CH- 904-LM (oiling lifter). Ford and GM guys: your counterparts will be available shortly!
