As you may already know, first-generation Camaros use inverted hat channel lightly welded to the floor as their rear frame section. This channel isn't the easiest to work with since it is no stronger a material than the floor itself. that means anything you bolt or weld to it can make it collapse or tear. I learned this the hard way a couple years ago. I had been experimenting with a sway bar kit, that needed links to be bolted to the frame rail. My over-sized exhaust didn't allow that, so I welded a reinforced bracket to the floor. My abusive driving style tore it out almost instantly. To remedy that problem, I built a 2X3-inch steel cross member to weld between the rails, to form a sturdy place to mount the sway bar's links. This worked great.
Now you don't need to go though as many steps with Hotchkis's bolt-in crossmember for their rear-sway bar. It will work with the Hotchkis sway bar if you've already got one. It's made from steel tubing, with TIG welded brackets, and powdercoated black. It retails for about $190.00, well worth not ripping your floor out while adding some strength!
