Wheel and Tire Combo

Project Street Figher's Shoes

It wasn't a hard decision when it came to choosing a wheel and tire combination for the Mustang.

This car is being built for true performance. There are no short cuts being taken from the engine to the brakes. So why should the performance stop there?

Instead of the blingy-20-inch wheels that weigh a ton, and don't offer a whole lot of room for rubber in these cramped inner fenders, we needed something more logical.

Nothing looks better on the hubs of these cars than a vintage-style 17-inch wheel in my opinion. You've seen them in the rendering already. To be consistent with the era, I chose Vintage Wheel Work's V60- wheel with the painted center in 17X8-inch all around. We may be painting these centers black further down the road.

As for rubber, street tires are ok, but race tires are better. I have been running the BFGoodrich R1's on my Camaro. They have been through autocross, road race, and street driving without any problems. Who are we kidding, we don't drive these things every day, and when we do, we drive them hard. That is why I don't think you can  justify the higher-mileage tires for loss of traction, especially braking traction. To fit the 17X8-inch wheels, the R1s are 245/40-17s all around.

I would like to thank Yaron at Solo Tire for the mount and balance!
