Custom Parts Are Easy With This Great Tool

Our favorite job shop, Advanced Waterjet, comes through for us big time on Project Talladega.

The ’75 Laguna project car is out of Ricky’s Customs & Restorations, and we’re now working hard on some custom pieces to enhance the visual appeal, and sell the NASCAR theme of Project Talladega. To that end, Heath Elmer of Heath Elmer’s Restorations in Mesa, AZ, has designed some cool custom spoilers for our project. This involved creating a couple of cardboard templates.

Yesterday, we took these templates over to Advanced Waterjet in Anaheim, CA, to be scanned, and cut on their Omax 55000 Waterjet Machining Center. Our guy, Mike (shown in photo), traced the templates, and entered the shape into the computer. Then he uncorked 55,000 psi of garnet-impregnated water onto an eighth-inch thick sheet of aluminum to cut them out in about 5 minutes.

If you’re interested in having Advanced Waterjet spec out a custom job for you, they’re very reasonable (it cost us under $100 for this job). You can contact Mike at 714-278-9874, or log on to www.advancedwj.com.
