It seems like no matter how careful you are, you cant check your tire pressure without getting brake dust or some sort of grease on you. I don't have a problem with getting dirty, but there is a time and a place for that.

How about a valve stem cap that changes color based on the pressure level.
They are self calibrating and set their initial installation pressure as what is normal. Once pressure drops 4-psi, the red LED is eliminated.
