There are many different wheel size and material options out there, knowing what you have to choose from is extremely helpful in making the right selection.

I’d like to go over a couple different style wheels and their pros and cons. They type of wheel you choose is important if you wish for your car to serve a specific purpose.

14- and 15-inch steel wheels

These are great for that factory look. When ultra-high-performance isn’t a huge concern, the weight difference isn’t that important. The selection of these wheels is vast. You can get them in nearly any factory style, in any factory bolt pattern. This is also a good choice if you are trying to accomplish the sleeper look.

15-inch aluminum wheels

When I think 15-inch aluminum wheels, I think of drag cars. They are the only kind of car who benefits from a taller sidewall. The rear sidewall allows the wheel to rotate independently of the outside of the tire for a moment to cushion the power application. The front wheels are some times larger than 15-inches but often are matched to the rear.

17- and 18-inch aluminum wheels

These wheels help minimize both un-sprung and rotational weight. This is one of the biggest weight loss advantages you can get. You can get these wheels in thousands of styles and size combination from vintage look to billet customs. The 16-inch and smaller wheels have gotten more and more rare even from the factory so your choices of rubber options go down. There are more high quality tires made for the larger wheels.
