There are a couple things that are likley to leave you stranded. In LA, between the traffic and the heat, a faulty cooling system is bound to catch up with you.
I used the factory brass/copper radiator that came in the car when I bought it for a long time. Around town and at the drag strip, I was always concerned about the car overheating and would often pull over to let things cool down to avoid a bigger problem.
I decided to switch from the old-style to a new aluminum radiator and single electric fan. I ordered a generic radiator from Summit and had tabs welded on it, this was before I could weld myself. It worked pretty well but I still had room for improvement.
The first summer, topping out at 112-degrees, I realized I need to go big or go home. I got BeCool's aluminum radiator with dual spal fans. They use a programer that gradually introduce the fans based on temperature.
Since then, I have never seen the needle pass 195, and when it sat there, I had been under load over 6,000rpm at California Speedway in the middle of July.
Not too shabby
