As you read this, I’ll be hopping on a plane to Chicago. Photographer Robert McGaffin and I will be at Rt. 66 Dragway in Joliet, IL this weekend to cover the Superbowl of Drag Racing. This event is unique, because it brings together the National Muscle Car Association (NMCA) and the National Mustang Racer’s Association (NMRA) for one huge four-day race at one of America’s most magnificent racing facilities.
Besides covering all the heads-up racing, I’ll be taking a hard look at the street cars in the popular Tremec True Street class, which Popular Hot Rodding used to be the presenting sponsor for. I’ll be looking for some hot street cars to feature, so if you see me there walking around with a silly blue “Media” vest on, stop me, and show me your ride. Who knows, we might even feature it! Right now, we’re looking for 11-, 10-, and 9-second street-legal muscle cars running on pump gas.
