We found this ’71 Chevelle for sale at the Goodguys PPG Nats in Columbus last weekend. It won’t last long.
I almost had to do a double-take when I walked through the car corral at the Goodguys PPG Nationals last weekend. I must have stared at the sign for ten minutes, trying to figure out what must be wrong with this car. The ’71 Chevelle in front of me had an asking price of $25K. Those of you who know me understand my infatuation with my own ’68 big-block Chevelle. My ride has about $40K in it, and it’s nowhere near as nice—or as fast—as the one I was looking at.
The seller, Mark Fannin of Dayton, Ohio, has decided to divest himself of his Lexus green SS Chevelle clone in order to get a new project. If I had the cash, I would have bought it on the spot. Here’s the description: The body is straight, the paint work is excellent, and the interior and engine bay are immaculate. It’s got a 489-ci big-block with Dart Pro 1 heads, a solid roller COMP cam, Victor Jr., intake, 830cfm Holley double pumper, 12-bolt rear with 4.10 gears and 33-spline axles, dual 3.5-inch exhaust with Flowmasters, a nice rollbar, Turbo 400 with TCI converter, and the trunk has a fuel cell and relocated battery.
Mark’s Chevelle runs on pump gas, and has run 10.80s right off the street on a set of Mickey Thompson ET Street radials. This is a car I’d love to feature, so if one of you out there reading this decides to buy it, drop me an email, and we’ll make the arrangements to shoot it. Let me make it clear that I never met Mark before seeing his car, and I have nothing to gain by helping him sell it—I’d simply like to see this Chevelle end up in the hands of a PHR Reader. I found Mark to be friendly, and he really loves building cars, so if you’re looking for a ground-pounding Chevelle, and want to score a deal, you should call him at 937-320-0801.
