I’ve been following the progress on Mike Racke’s twin-turbo ’70 Chevelle for over a year now, and many of you may have seen it in progress at the 2007 SEMA show in Vegas last November. If it doesn’t ring a bell, here are some details: It’s powered by an Allison turbo diesel with twin Garrett turbos, and will make an easy 1,100hp. The real kicker is that although it is technically a diesel engine, it has been designed from the start to run on bio diesel. Translation: old French fry oil.
Mike says he’s built a lot of motors, but never a diesel, so that’s why things are taking so long. Popular Hot Rodding has been promised an exclusive on it, and we’re eager to see the finished product do a burnout that smells like a McDonalds with all fry baskets boiling!
Some of the parts getting stuffed into this beast include Carillo rods, ATS billet flywheel, Fluidamper balancer, PPE dual fueler, custom intake manifold, ported heads, Titanium retainers, 33mm and 35mm valves, custom cam, and custom pistons by SoCal Diesel. Bassani did most of the custom underhood plumbing, and Anaheim Prestige autobody did the paint.
