I will never forget my first track day. I didnt take my Camaro because I didnt have a way to transport it. I would have driven it the 5 hours to get to the track if I was totaly sure it would not have any mechanical failures but that was not for sure. It being my first track event, I didnt know what to expect and what the weak links of my car were. So instead of the Camaro, I brought my rain and errand runner Ford Probe GT.
I can hear you all snickering, but dont judge just yet. Throwing around a light-weight, relitivly powerful 5-speed car around a track predictibly was an amazing experience. By the end of the day I couldnt wait to unleash the Camaro.
After taking the Camaro to several track-days I noticed my driving style changed dramatically. Once running through the canyons at 9/10tenths morphed into more of a cruise. My driving record was starting to clear up and I could remove the waiver clipboard from the backseat of my car.
The same thing happened to me when I took my bike to the track. I dont run nearly as hard on the street since I know I can go so much faster on the track, its not worth the risk to push it on the street anymore.
Bottom line, your record, your car, and yourself will thank you for getting out there.
