Why skimp on tires?

Running R-compound tires on the street

When you spend tens of thousands of dollars on your car, why put cheap tires on it?

For a long time, my Camaro didn’t have the suspension or the power to benefit from real-quality tires. The brakes weren’t powerful enough to even get a wheel to lock up, so spending a lot on tires didn’t seem important.

Now though, I have put countless hours and dollars into it, I see things differently. I traded my 400-tread-wear tires for BFGoodrich R1’s; a barely DOT road race slick.

I was skeptical at first. I didn’t know how long they would last or what might happen if it starts to sprinkle. So far, I have two track days, an autocross event, and a couple thousand street miles on these tires and they are still technically legal!

If you ever have to make a sudden maneuver, it’s nice to know that the tires won’t let go.

So bottom line; why not have the best tires you can afford?

p.s: you can run BFG dragradials on the front too!
