The other day, a reader sent me a photo—the lead shot in this blog—that reminded me how I used to treat my ’76 Camaro project car. One thing you can plainly see is that I’m standing on top of the roof with a tripod and camera. One thing you can’t see is that the tripod had worn-out rubber feet—the aluminum tube of each leg was digging right through the roof’s paint and scraping into metal.
In a way, I long for the old days, when I could just go out and abuse my Camaro. It was fun not to worry about anything—just go out and drive it (or use it as a photo platform). Now that Project g-28 has been given a paint job that cost more than I made in 1995, I’m a little more circumspect about driving it. And I certainly wouldn’t stand on the roof with a tripod either!
Thanks to Larry Noble for sending me this candid photo our April 2004 cover shoot. It sure brought back good memories!
