Year One’s new performance catalog takes a refreshing approach with its emphasis on street car performance.
I’m a catalog junkie, so when I got Year One’s new Speed Shop catalog, I had to crack it open to take a look. Based on what I saw, I highly recommend you grab one when you get the chance. (The catalog’s part number is RP108, and costs $10. You can call them at 800-680-6806 to order it, or go to their website, www.yearone.com.) We use a lot of catalogs around here to order parts and to do research for stories. I can’t tell you how many times we’ve used the Summit and Jeg’s catalogs for different projects. But the Year One Speed Shop catalog takes a different approach than what you might expect. First, some background.
Selling speed parts is nothing new to Year One. They’ve included them for years in their regular model-specific catalogs. Over time, Year One has added more to the mix, and even forayed into designing and building their own parts. They’ve also worked hand-in-hand with many manufacturers to develop stuff. Adding to that is Year One’s in-house custom car shop. This has resulted in finding out first-hand what works, what doesn’t work, and what products need to be made to fill a specific void. Much like Summit and Jeg’s have serious racecar efforts, Year One builds serious street cars and track cars as test beds for new stuff. If you dug the one-off wheels from the Burt Reynolds BAN-series Trans Am, they’re now in the Speed Shop catalog—just to name one example.
You can find pretty much any GM, Ford, or Mopar speed part in the Speed Shop catalog, but with every page you turn, you’ll find stuff you’d never find in a mail order catalog. Some of the cool stuff I found included a crate ’67 Mustang fastback, Bowler Performance transmissions, Gear Vendor overdrives, Air Ride suspensions, Morrison frames, Detroit Speed Quadralink four-links, limitless disc brake conversion kits, IP gauge kits, and one of the coolest selections of street wheels around. I know I’ll get an email about something cool I left out, but there just isn’t enough room to list it all here. The emphasis is clearly on street performance and all-around handling, but power is represented too, with a full line of Year One branded crate motors (all the way up to a 750hp 572 big-block that runs on pump gas).
If you are working on a serious-effort street car, I highly recommend the Year One Speed Shop catalog. I plan on putting mine right beside the others in my favorite reading spot!
