Famed Project Car Unveiling at SEMA

Project X, the most famous magazine project car of all time is set to debut its newest incarnation October 30th at SEMA, after a complete rebuild with the help of GM Performance Parts.

Project X was first acquired in 1965 by the staff of PHR, they couldn't think of a name for it someone said Project X and it stuck. Since its inception as a project car for PHR it has seen 90 editorials, and 19 magazine covers. The car graced the silver screen in the 1980 film Hollywood Knights.

The newest version of Project X will feature:

- Redesigned/fabricated/modified frame/suspension/drivetrain
- Redesigned/refined the hood/hood hinge/radiator core support
- Redesigned/modified the door window sheetmetal
- Redesigned/fabricated the rear wheelwells/floor sheetmetal
- Multiple appearance innovations that incorporate 50 years of GM Design cues
- Vehicle built to immaculate 'international car show' standards

2. I remember when Lee Kelly and Leonard Emanuelson replace 427 for a blown 350 L-82 those guys was nuts,also that blown 33 Ford pickup and long live SMO-CUM 482 VEGA.

7. I see you guys are redoing Project X,again,so soon, after the last one.remember how unpopular that was?how much hate mail you got?you guys know what a car's personality is.so why you screwing with Project X?it's personality was the the cut out rear wells wells,the huge blower ,with no hood.now that doesn't mean you can't fiddle with the suspenion,interior,wheels ect.but you don't change the basic personality of the car,other wise you got a basic yellow 57 chevy.you say you can't up date it? for Pete"s sake it's a 57 Chevy,how much up dating can you do,before it looks stupid?you're almost there now.why don't you get a fiberglass 57 chevy body,do this stuff to it to your heart's desire,and leave Project X the hell a lone.it's an icon of hotrodding,you aren't,they got it right the first time.Tom Gaines,Indiana

8. Yep , I am stuck in Old school maybe, I despise steam roller 17-22" bing wheels,they have NO place on a rod or 50's to sixties car.WHY take a perfect period car and turn into a bling POS? Lots of other 57's out there to do and not destroy history.
YUK! I see nothing of use, but the motor and paint. Everything else is cheap window dressing from the bling wheels + cheezy interior to that STUPID hole and plate affair in the front fenders. sad, very sad, I got a letter awhile back wondering why I do not subscribe any longer, THIS is why. You have lost touch w our roots, tasteful + time proven STYLE.
I know, I know , Sometimes I get as bad as a restorer in this stuff. But classic style is and always will be classic.
