Cadillac XLR-V

I had the chance to get behind the wheel of a Cadillac XLR-V, now if you don't know what that is, think of a basically Vette re-badged and massaged into a Caddy, with a Supercharged Northstar V8.

Mike Floyd of Motortrend cruised by our office yesterday (I think it was because we had free ice cream during our annual fire drill, not positive) we were checking the car out when I jokingly asked if I could take it for a spin around the block. Surprisingly he said yes! As I buckled my seatbelt I tried to keep my composure, I fired her up using the push button and backed her up for a nice little cruise.

Now this was a first for me on many levels, first time driving a convertible, first supercharged V8, first car over 100 grand, and most importantly first car that could do 0-60 in under 5 seconds.

The car is lightning fast, but maintains a certain air of luxury as the speedo ticks off the MPH like its going out of style. The supercharger whines like a dog in heat as you stab the go pedal. I located the traction control, and switched it into fun mode. The car lit the tires up with almost no hesitation, this is what this car was built for, and it begs to be flogged around.

Now most PHR readers wouldn't be able to justify 100 grand for a car, no matter how nice it is. The car has cheap feeling plastic and I watched in amazement as Joel, the blogmaster at Automotive.com wiggled the center console, as it swayed from side to side like it does on my eleven year old Acura.

In conclusion, it was a great car...just not 100,000 dollars great.
